Lets be honest here, tacos are just about some of the yummiest things you can eat. You can be the biggest foodie, dine in the finest of restaurants, rub elbows with the Eric Ripert’s & Hubert Keller’s of the world, but once a delicious taco hits your mouth, your knees buckle.
Tacos can be the simplest form of pure deliciousness: tortilla, meat, onions/cilantro, and a salsa. That’s it!
One of my many quests, are to find the best, most interesting tacos. There are some fine contenders in Los Angeles. You have your casual high-end taco bar, Candela, who serves an assortment of deliciously interesting tacos, including one of my favorites, the crema de elote con chile poblanos. You also have Pinches Tacos, who have some great tacos, but are slightly overpriced.
Amidst all of the restaurants serving fine tacos in this town, there is one that really stands out to me. I’m not mentioning this place because of the chef’s celebrity status, but to point out her truly delicious tacos. Susan Feniger’s Street restaurant is serving up a mean taco.
Susan Feniger’s Street Braised Beef Tacos ($13) are simple in ingredients, yet have such complex flavors. Braised beef (tender and delicious), carmelized onions, chipotle salsa, cilantro, pickled fresno chiles, and cotija cheese. It’s a symphony in your mouth.
On the side, she serves a cabbage/carrot slaw that is the perfect compliment to the heat of the tacos.
If you’re looking for a gourmet taco, be sure to eat at Street. Actually, everything there is delicious. Trust me, I’m the mayor there!
